The idea for the manufacture of the Smart Oil Recovery system came about in the winter of 2010 as a result of cooperation between the Lars Lundin and Kalervo Jolma, the progressive operations manager of the Finnish Environment Institute.
Designed and built by Lars Lundin and commissioned by The Finnish Environment Institute, the Smart Oil Recovery system was completed in autumn of the same year.
THE NEW SMART RECOVERY SYSTEM
The unmanned Smart Recovery system is particularly suited for high winds in excess of 12 metres per second, and when other equipment cannot be used. The system is towed and anchored at the right moment to the underside of the oil ferry, downwind of the oil to prevent it from reaching the shore.
In addition to the collector the system also include oil collectors and oil-steering booms.
The oil-prevention system’s optimal operational width is one nautical mile long, whereupon it can collect up to 3,000 tons of oil per hour.
